Social distancing, while disappointing and frustrating, is truly a necessity. While you may be young and healthy, you could unknowingly be a carrier of the virus and unintentionally infect vulnerable members of our community (including your own family or your best friend’s grandma). PLEASE stay home if you can; the quicker we follow CDC recommendations the faster we can recover as a community.
Here are some ways to stay engaged.
Wirecutter has a list of services that are free or deeply discounted due to the coronavirus.
Online Support Groups: Reach out to your local AA, NA, AL ANON, Grief and Loss, or interest group (book club, new mothers, crafting) many have opted to do online meet-ups through apps like Zoom or Skype.
Facebook Live Streaming: Many local businesses are streaming their events or having group meetings online. Examples include (not limited to): Bingo, trivia nights, live streaming drag shows, cultural events
Netflix Party is a chrome extension that allows you to have a movie night with friends virtually.
Host a virtual game night: Use Zoom, FaceTime, Skype, Discord or your preferred video chat application to meet up with your friends and play a game from your respective homes.
Marco Polo is a social app that encourages users to communicate with their friends directly through the app as opposed to text messaging or phone calls. (It is great to send positive reinforcement and encourage to young family members from a distance)
Roll 20 is a way to virtually play tabletop games with friends.
JackBox Games: (fees pend on device) Play games with your friends from anywhere using a smart device (phone or tablet) and TV. Just enter the room code and start playing.
Connect with people in your own home: Sounds obvious, but we often take those closest to us for granted.
Work on positive communication with your partner, roommate, friends, or family.
Learn something new about them. Try this suggestion of asking 20 questions (example questions) If those aren’t you speed or don’t fit your audience, google other question ideas or create your own.
Create new routines or share interests. Play games together, exercise together (accountability), or watch a show together.
